Teens and Toddlers is an award winning programme that drives improved behavioural and educational outcomes for at risk teens in Year 10 of secondary school. The programme combines hands-on work experience in a local nursery (with the teens acting as a role model “mentor” to a vulnerable toddler) with classroom learning and reflection led by a trained Teens and Toddlers facilitator. On completion of the 18-week programme, the teens continue to be supported by the facilitators through structured monthly meetings, which aim to embed the learnings of the programme through to the end of Year 11 schooling.
Impetus-PEF has worked with Teens and Toddlers since 2009, helping them to build their management and performance capabilities. This enabled them to attract and reap the benefits offered by social investment. A further funding pledge in 2016 along with additional management support and pro bono advice for the next year will enable Teens and Toddlers to develop their unique programme even further.
