Post-16 education and training is not supporting disadvantaged young people to catch-up and attain these key qualifications and therefore gain the skills they need to progress into sustained education or employment. The particularly poor outcomes experienced by 16-19 year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds combined with recent policy changes affecting the provision they receive, has moved us to focus our attention on this group and their life after school during 2016/7.
In this, our first report under our Life after school campaign, we present the post-16 landscape for these young people, introduce the experiences of three of our partner charities serving those most at risk within this age group, and highlight the barriers to progression that these young people face.
