Joe is one of thousands of disadvantaged young people who found a career path he never knew existed, as a result of the innovative programme of Impetus-PEF charity partner, Street League.
Joe, from Glasgow, was unemployed with no future plans. He spent much of his life at the local youth centre and it was here that he heard about Street League. Over the next year Joe took part in regular training sessions and attended a Street League employment Academy. He developed a real commitment to playing and engaging with Street League’s employability programme. With Street League’s encouragement, he started to think actively about his next steps towards a future career.
Mentally and physically, he went through a significant transformation and started to set his sights on becoming a sports coach himself. Joe decided to make his dreams a reality and with hard work and dedication, he’s now studying at Glasgow Metropolitan College to do a two year Higher Education Diploma in Sports Coaching, and after that he aims to do a sports-related degree.
Impetus-PEF has worked with Street League since 2008 to refine its delivery model and support the national roll out of its model. With Impetus-PEF’s support, Street League has expanded to cities across the UK and Scotland, has developed their management resources and has really focused on helping young people build key employability skills and gain access to jobs and training through their Academy programme.
Thanks to Street League for providing this story.
